Distinctive Dental Services of New York, P.C. is dedicated to providing dental care for infants, children, and adolescents by our pediatric dental specialists and adults by our general dentists. Our pediatric dental specialists and our general dentists are well trained and experienced in treating those patients with special needs. The doctors and staff in our practice realize that each patient has his or her own unique needs and we strive to ensure that our patients receive care in a comfortable and friendly environment with modern, high-tech equipment.
We use the latest in High-Tech Dental Equipment
Another way our practice strives to provide you with dental care in a comfortable, relaxing environment is our use of high-tech dental equipment.
Digital Radiography (X-rays with 90% less Radiation)
A high-tech form of X-rays called digital radiography allows us to show you and your child the results of the X-rays in half the time it takes with conventional X-rays. Your dentist is better able to diagnose dental decay and other problems using digital radiography. Most importantly, these X-rays are taken with 90% less radiation than conventional X-rays. We use a thin, flexible X-ray film called a phosphor imaging plate that is more comfortable and more easily tolerated than conventional film or a digital sensor. For patients who cannot tolerate the X-ray film inside their mouth, we use our Planmeca panoramic X-ray machine to take digital check-up X-rays from outside the patient's mouth.
NOMAD Pro 2
Our portable X-ray unit, NOMAD Pro 2, allows us to take digital X-rays on our patients who have difficulty transferring into a dental chair.
Pediatric Dentistry Division
Dr. Mary George, and Dr. Gina Sajnani, our board-certified pediatric dentists, provide your child with high quality dentistry and they take the time to explain what is happening at each visit. Children and their parents enter the dental office with their own questions and fears. Our doctors and staff make every effort to answer these questions and allay any fears. When both the child and parent are relaxed we can build a relationship and a smile that will last a lifetime.
For more information, visit our pediatric dentistry section.
Our Child-Friendly Waiting Room
Both parent and child can relax as your child awaits for his or her exam. Our waiting room features popular children's movies for their viewing as they wait. Are they feeling a little more active? Our waiting room also features a two-story playhouse with a variety of activities to keep their active minds busy.

Dental Anesthesia Division
Dr. Ralph Epstein is a board-certified dentist anesthesiologist who maintains a certificate in Dental General Anesthesia issued by the New York State Education Department. Our practice can treat you or your child in our office with the aid of general anesthesia, intravenous sedation or oral sedation. Many patients that require sedation or general anesthesia for treatment or have special needs can be treated at our facility at a more affordable cost than a hospital. At our office your dental care needs are a priority. When IV sedation is scheduled, Dr. Ralph Epstein our dentist anesthesiologist will administer the anesthesia and monitor your vital signs while one of our dentists or an outside dental specialist provides the dental or surgical care.
By having a separate anesthesiologist providing the sedation and anesthetic care we can provide the safest care for you or your child. For further information on how we monitor you or your child during anesthesia please see our section on Anesthesia Monitoring Equipment. These anesthesia services are provided in a safe and controlled environment. We have added a new operating room with easy access for patients in wheel chairs. This operating room is large enough to permit multiple dental specialists to provide care when needed. For more information refer to our FAQ's page.
Anesthesia Monitoring Equipment
For our patients who require treatment with the aid of general anesthesia, intravenous sedation or oral sedation, we use the most up-to-date monitoring equipment. In fact, our office is equipped with the same equipment that is required in a hospital setting. We are also equipped with one of the newest types of monitoring (BIS monitoring) that many hospitals do not use. This BIS monitor allows the anesthesiologist to administer anesthesia to an ideal level, assuring to the best ability, that the patient will have no recall of the procedure and will wake up rapidly following the end of the procedure.
